Let me tell you about my pal Doc Carney.

He's an "Email Players" subscriber who is also a direct mail master (now THAT'S a lethal combo) and has taken to email like a water to fish. In fact, he likes doing it so much, he writes me almost-daily emails telling me about all the stuff going on his life just to keep honing his skillz.

What kinds of stuff does he tell me about?

His latest adventures, of course.

Like the stuff he's working on.

His motorcycle road trips.

And, yes, his dating life.

I promised him none of the stuff he tells me about the latter will end up in any of my daily emails.

(Although I think you'd find it HIGHLY entertaining -- in fact, I've been suggesting he start a blog about it...)

But, I can talk about his motorcycle adventures.

And specifically, something he mentioned the other day.

Something that was a great life lesson.

Here is what he said:

===

I was driving and on the radio

they were talking about an accident

on a freeway about 35 miles from home.

What they were saying was there was

a bad accident and possibly a fatality.

That got me to thinking.

As a copywriter, email xpurt (not really)

and direct mail gooroo, I love what I do.

Yeah I do have to get up in the mornings,

but if I want to go to the gym and workout,

I go.

If I want to sit around and watch TV, I

can do that.

If I want to play with the dogs, ride my ten

speed, or just lay out in the sun, I can.

That's my choices everyday. Not bad in

anyone's books.

I'm pretty darn passionate about doing

things my way, on my time, on my schedule.

Not very many people can live the life

that I'm living.

Well not at least very many.

But my point is pretty 'darn' simple.

When those people in the accident got up

this morning, they had no clue their life

would be ending so abruptly. And when

I hear about things like this all I can think

about is if I'm doing all I can do to live

and be what I want to be. Most of the

time I can answer myself and say,

"Yup, you're doing your own thing."

===

Food for thought, eh?

In my humble (but always accurate) opinion...

If you call yourself an entrepreneur then you should always be working towards being able to do YOUR own thing, not someone else's

Building YOUR own lifestyle, not someone else's.

And achieving YOUR own goals, not someone else's.

Otherwise, what's the point?

Anyway, let's wrap this up.

If you're stuck in a job you hate, or growing tired of licking clients' boots and want to control your own destiny in business, there's no faster way I know of than by learning email marketing.

It's quick.

It's cheap.

And, it's easy to learn.
